Pulmonary hypertension is an independent predictor of mortality in hemodialysis patients - Mordechai Yigla, Oren Fruchter, Doron Aharonson, Noa Yanay, Shimon A Reisner, Moshe Lewin and Farid Nakhoul

Our study shows the incidence of pulmonary hypertension, after initiation of hemodialysis therapy, is a strong independent predictor of mortality nearly equal to that associated with long-standing severe cardiac abnormalities.

The mortality risk of overhydration in haemodialysis patients - Volker Wizemann, Peter Wabel, Paul Chamney, Wojciech Zaluska, Ulrich Moissl, Christiane Rode, Teresa Malecka-Masalska, and Daniele Marcelli

The results of our study indicate that the hydration state is an important and independent predictor of mortality in chronic HD patients secondary only to the presence of diabetes. We believe that it is essential to measure the hydration status objectively and quantitatively in order to obtain a more clearly defined assessment of the prognosis of haemodialysis patients.

Hemodialysis modality, percentage of body fat, and patient survival - M. Stosovic, M. Stanojevic, M. Radovic, S. Simic-Ogrizovic, V. Lezaic, R. Naumovic, D. Jovanovic, G. Ristic, L. Djukanovic, J. Marinkovic

Changes in hemodialysis modality were followed by both higher body fat percentage and patient survival. The reverse epidemiology of overweight patients might be at least partially the result of the influence of nonnutritional factors, such as a change in hemodialysis modality (introducing biocompatible high-flux and low-flux membranes and bicarbonate dialysis).

LONG-TERM MODALITY-RELATED MORTALITY ANALYSIS IN INCIDENT DIALYSIS PATIENTS - Chin-Chan Lee, Chiao-Yin Sun, Mai-Szu Wu

Link to abstract.  Peritoneal Dialysis International - 29:2:182-190 - March/April 2009
Dialysis modality had no significant impact on all-cause or infection-related mortality. More studies are needed to clarify the putative difference in cardiovascular mortality risk between diabetic patients on PD and diabetic patients on HD.
